I think that if country songs weren't usually sung by sunburnt whiskery guys then people would take it more seriusly. Alas, our shallow culture doesn't seem to take them seriously at all.

Probably. Some of them are really deep.
But not the ones about whiskey and prostitutes and beer.
Then again, pop stars sing about shit too..
